"SOMEWHERE" MUSIC VIDEO HITS A NERVE WITH SENSITIVE VIEWERS (2008-03-19)
PRESS RELEASE
Walt, a melodic contemporary rock artist from JHB, has released his first single, "Somewhere" from his debut album, entitled "Until The End". The single and video for "Somewhere" was released simultaneously to South African media and has created quite a stir due to its sad and traumatic story line of a young girl being abducted by a pedophile outside her nursery school and her mother's frantic and desperate search for her missing daughter.
"Somewhere" was written by singer Erwalt De Beer. In early 2007, he called up Mark Beling (Mean Mr Mustard) to join him on production and the recording process began over the next year. "Somewhere" became the instant choice for the first radio and television single after a few close friends and family members listened to the new demos being created and all pinpointed that song. It has powerful and poignant prose, delivered with exceptional emotion in beautiful balladic rock. There have already been many different interpretations of the lyrics, with some friends hearing religious fervor and others trying to hide their tears. Well known sculptor Anton Smit, made a 6 meter tall sculpture artwork of a female human figure that reflects the story as he interpreted the lyrics. (A picture of this can be seen in the album booklet.)
But for singer Erwalt and video director, Quintin Wiehahn, the song depicted the pain of loss and separation from someone so close and so special that words can barely express the despair. In our country, there is a nasty reality of children being stolen by pedophiles and slave trade groups. The absolute loss and trauma created by this disgusting activity inspired the artistes to use the video to showcase this problem and create a public awareness for The National Missing Kids Bureau. After auditioning several people, they chose well known actress, Christel Van Den Bergh as the traumatized mother in the video for her incredibly emotive performance. The National Missing Kids Bureau and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department were also delighted to be involved in the concept.
"Somewhere" the video, entered MK's video chart at #7. The single has been accepted by several radio stations for playlist including, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, Radio 2000, Radio Today, Tuks FM, UJFM, Kovsie FM, Puk FM, and MFM, with more stations adding the song everyday.
The album, "Until the End" is set for release in September. Walt will be performing around South Africa to promote this new release. Erwalt hopes that whilst the message on "Somewhere" is terribly sad, listeners will use the song as a reminder that every day there are people in our country who face horrendous emotional traumas, and as a nation we need to stand up against these crimes, demand that something is done about it and at the same time, support the people who are trying to make a difference.
